This degree aims to study coastal and marine areas in order to contribute to their growth in a sustainable way, with special emphasis on the socioeconomic, political and environmental development of Rio Grande do Sul State’s extreme southern region. Therefore, the constitution of a scientific support of excellence for formulating public policies which correctly meet the demands of coastal and marine areas is sought. The program also proposes to contribute to the qualification of human capital in Economics, focusing on the application to the coastal and marine areas, not only in the very south of the country, but also in Brazil as a whole.
